A DOCTOR Who star has defended the show after backlash over its ‘woke storylines’ and the bizarre trigger warning over ‘discriminatory aliens.’

The recent serieswith fans outraged by the BBC shoehorning wokery into the storylines.

Reportedly, The British Board of Film Classification warned it contained “verbal references to discrimination and the discriminatory nature of an alien society.”
But Percelle has staunchly defended it, telling Flying Eze: “People will talk and you can’t stop people talking and honestly I truthfully think it’s always a minority of people who say stuff like that as well.
“They said the same thing when Jodie Whittaker was the Doctor when I was in Doctor Who, and yet still you look at the ratings and the numbers and it’s still performing, you look at the comments and there are so many people that love it & are so proud of it.”;
Percelle added: “I am so proud of what they’re doing with the show, and Russel T Davis is still at the helm of the show and then there’s Ncuti, I am messaging them in the comments saying I think they’re great and doing so well. Ncuti is doing so well.”;
It comes as actor , who played the 11th Doctor, previously blasted trigger warnings.
He said: “I always thought that was one of the great things about doing Doctor Who.
“That you scared children, in a controlled way, but you did scare them.
“Imagine you go to kids watching Doctor Who, ‘By the way, this might scare you.’ No, I’m not into it.
“That’s why we go to the theatre, isn’t it? To be shocked, to be arrested out of ourselves, to recognise ourselves in front and with an audience.
“I worry sometimes that we’re moving towards a sort of sanitised version of everything and we’re stripping the danger and the invention and the ingenuity out of everything. Isn’t art meant to be dangerous?
“I worry everything’s being dialed and dumbed down.”;
Meanwhile, actor Percelle, 31, has continued to star in sci-fi and has carved out a very impressive acting career since his start as Benny Sherwood in British Sci-fi kids show Wizards Vs Aliens.
The show ran from 2012-2014 and has many connections to with Percelle going on to appear in Doctor Who-related works following his time on the kids series.
Percelle left the show in 2014 after three seasons, and ended up going on to bag himself numerous acting credits.
In 2018, Ascott starred in the supernatural series The Innocents alongside A-Lister Guy Pearce.
That same year, he went on to appear in the Doctor Who episode The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos as well as Rapman's web trilogy Shiro's Story which has amassed over 30 million views on .
Not knowing he’d one day land a role in Doctor Who, Percelle told us how excited he was to film Wizards Vs Aliens next to where the show was filmed.
Percelle said: “I did another BBC role and then Wizards came along and I remember I did like 14 auditions to actually get the part.
“I was so passionate about playing the role of Benny and being in it, and when I got to Cardiff next door to us was Doctor Who and I remember walking down the corridor and seeing Matt Smith and I was 18 years old so I thought ‘wow this is so cool.’
“I thought ‘I’m actually living my dream, I’m doing it.’ It was an incredible time.”;
