Dominican Republic: Pope Francis mourns as nearly 200 die in nightclub incident

Pope Francis has extended his prayers to those who died and others, who were injured when a roof collapsed at a nightclub in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The incident occurred early Tuesday morning when the roof fell on over 300 people in the Jet Set night club.

Nearly while others are still critically ill due to injuries.

Authorities said about 155 people have been rescued from the rubble, with emergency service personnel continuing to search the rubble for survivors.

According to Vatican News, Pope Francis in a telegram addressed to the Archbishop of Santa Domingo expressed his “sincere condolences”; for the families of those who died and “expressions of consolation, heartfelt concern, and best wishes for a speedy recovery”; for those who were injured.

The Holy Father further extended his Apostolic Blessing to all those affected by the incident.
