Downpour destroys buildings, school in Kwara community

Scores of buildings and an educational institution were destroyed in a downpour that occurred on Wednesday in Igbonna communities, Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The heavy rainfall caused significant damage, with several buildings and a school collapsing due to its impact, according to reports.

The Executive Chairman of Oyun Local Government, Kamar Olanrewaju Akanbi, visited the affected communities to assess the destruction caused by the storm.

Addressing the residents, the council chairman expressed his heartfelt sympathy and assured them of the government’s support during this difficult time. He emphasised that relief efforts would be prioritised to alleviate the suffering of those impacted by the disaster.

As part of the government's intervention, the chairman pledged that the rebuilding of the collapsed school would be a top priority in the next development phase.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and ensuring the well-being of the residents.

Accompanying the chairman were key officials, including the Speaker of the Oyun Legislative Council, Ayanlere Omotayo Olalekan, and the Head of the Works Department, among others.
