Massive 7.1 mag earthquake strikes off Tonga coast sparking a tsunami warning

A HUGE 7.1 magnitude earthquake has hit near Tonga and prompted a tsunami warning.

The US Geological Survey said the temblor hit about 62 miles northeast of the main island in the early morning hours of Monday local time.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued an alert saying hazardous waves could be possible for coasts located within 300 kilometres (185 miles) of the epicentre.
