Fury as Net Zero Secretary Ed Miliband admits solar panels for schools and hospitals will come from China

ED Miliband sparked fury yesterday after admitting schools and hospitals’ solar panels will come from China.

The bumbling Net Zero Secretary admitted Beijing — the world’s largest polluter will bag millions from state-owned GB Energy to make new panels for the public sector.

Former Tory leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith slammed Mr Miliband for “bending the knee”; to a “totalitarian state.”;

He said: “You couldn’t make this up, really.

“They build coal, oil, and gas power plants about every two weeks.

“Meanwhile Britain, which puts out just one per cent of emissions, gets China to build our clean energy so we don’t have to tell everybody that we’re dirty because we use coal.”;

On Friday, Downing Street insisted that panels procured as part of the £200million project will have to meet the “highest security standards”;.

But a spokesperson for Sir Keir Starmer insisted that dealing with Xi Jinping was inevitable, arguing: “We can’t shy away from China’s role in global energy supply chains.”;

Shipping goods from China to the UK is highly energy-intensive.

A single trip by a container vessel here can emit up to 900 metric tons of CO2.

It came as Mr Miliband admitted energy costs will go up as Ofgem hikes the price cap on variable tariffs.
