A HIT Brit popstar left fans doing a double take after revealing a very different look for the release of his new album.
The chart-topper, 34, who has collaborated with the likes of , 35, and , 31, to name a few, appeared to have switched up his style in a dramatic makeover.



is known for his flame-haired locks and tracks including A Team, Curtains and Shape Of You.
Yet the -born star, 34, has now caused confusion with a new look, which has seen him switch his locks for jet-black tresses.
If that wasn't enough of an image tweak, he pulled on a grey beanie hat and huge black sunglasses, while accessorising with a new silver lip ring.
Perfect hitmaker Ed donned an all-black outfit to match his new barnet as he took a mirror selfie which he posted to Instagram.
Yet all was not as it seemed.
Ed took to his grid caption to clarify the situation, stating the snaps were in fact throwbacks.
Alongside one he wrote: “â Genuinely had a MySpace photo like this when I was 14.”
He then mused alongside his mirror selfie: “â â What band name am I lead singer of? Jimmy called us Frat Poison.”
He also shed light on the piercing and put: “Fake lip piercing but might just do it yolo.”
One fan was quick to comment: “Emo Ed is literally my favourite Ed, pls make this become a real thing for at least one music video.”
A second put: “Emo Sheeran wasn't on my bingo card today but slay.”
A third then confessed: “I love you but this was almost a jump scare.”
His images came after as he played to commuters on the subway in NYC.

During 2024, the singer-songwriter had been focused on.
Ed recently worked with Love Actually director on the animated feature That Christmas, which features his poignant holiday track Under the Tree.
Speaking about his upcoming album back in December, he shared: “It feels like I’m getting back into big pop for the first time in a long time.
“It's quite exciting.”
He also explained why he has deviated from that style of music for his past two albums, saying that it was because Equals came out during the pandemic, and Subtract was a completely different record that “didn’t really call for big pop stuff.”
