The crisis rocking the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has deepened as the Chief Dan Orbih-led Legacy Group of the party commissioned a factional secretariat in Benin City.
DAILY POST reports that Orbih is the National Vice Chairman, South-South, of the party and Chairman Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University, AAU, Ekpoma.
Orbih said the decision to get a new secretariat was borne out of the eviction of the party from its secretariat by the All Progressives Congress, APC.
According to him, the party has been homeless since January 2025.
He added that the commissioning was in fulfilment of the promise he had made to members to get them a befitting secretariat.
“A few weeks ago, I made a promise in one of our meetings that I was going to donate a Secretariat to the Party. So today, we can go back home and say it was a promise made and a promise fulfilled.
“PDP cannot be a homeless party. On January 17, 2025, our former chairman was chased out from our office along Airport Road.
“And from January to this very day, Edo PDP has no state Secretariat. It has been homeless.
“Today, we celebrate the triumphant opening of the PDP state Secretariat to put an end to it being referred to as a homeless party,” he added.
Orbih used the occasion to call on members of the Edo PDP Caretaker Committee to stop issuing statements on behalf of the party.
He posited that the Caretaker Committee in the state is unknown to the party constitution, adding that the members can no longer speak for PDP having collaborated with the former governor to destroy the party.
“I looked back and I feel sad that this is where we are today as a party. A party that once had two serving senators and the majority of the members of the House of Representatives.
“Today, we have no senator; we have only one member in the House of Representatives. And even the governorship is gone to APC.
“I want to state here in my capacity as the National Vice Chairman, South South of the PDP those people parading themselves as members of the Edo PDP Caretaker Committee have no stand in PDP.
“From today, we will stop entertaining any statements aside from those who will manage the party from today in Edo State. It is time for us to rebuild, reconstruct, and reposition PDP,” he added.
