Elon Musk calls for zero tariff between Europe, US to create free trade zone

Published on April 05, 2025 at 08:56 PM

Elon Musk is advocating for zero tariffs between the United States and European countries.

In a virtual interview with Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini on Saturday, Elon Musk said that although Europe and America already have an existing relationship, there is a need for closer partnership.

He said, “I hope that the United States and Europe will establish a very close partnership. There is an alliance already, but we hope that there can be a very close relationship between America and Europe.”

“I'm hopeful, for example, with the tariffs, that at the end of the day, it is agreed that both Europe and the United States should move to a zero-tariff situation.”

He noted that such a move would “effectively create a free trade zone between Europe and North America,” particularly the United States.

DAILY POST reports that the bloc was recently hit with tariffs from President Donald Trump's administration.

Trump announced on Wednesday that Italy, which has a large trade relationship with the US, will be subject to a general tariff of 20%, along with other members of the European Union.

Trump's trade war across the globe has continued to attract condemnation from economic experts, who warned of possible consequences.
