Elon Musk to find out how journalist got into US officials Signal group chat

Published on March 26, 2025 at 11:17 PM

Elon Musk, head of the US Department of Government Effectiveness, DOGE, has offered to deploy his technical experts to investigate how Jeffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, was inadvertently added to a Signal group with senior administration officials.

This was disclosed by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Wednesday.

Leavitt made the statement while speaking to reporters in the White House briefing room.

“Elon Musk has offered to put his technical experts on this to determine how this number was inadvertently added to the chat,” Leavitt said.

Leavitt added that the effort is to “take responsibility and to ensure that this could never happen again.”

It's worth recalling that US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz convened a text conversation with senior US officials earlier this month to discuss strikes on Houthi militants in Yemen, according to The Atlantic.

Waltz apparently accidentally added Goldberg to the Signal group.
