EPL: Guardiola picks midfielder to buy as De Bruyne’s replacement

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has identified Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz as the man to replace Kevin De Bruyne, according to the Daily Mail.

The 21-year-old has shone for the Bundesliga champions since he broke into the first team as a teenager.

Wirtz has crucial to Xabi Alonso's team winning the title in a historic unbeaten campaign last season.

The Germany international had been tipped with a move to Real Madrid, but now City believes he can offer the same dynamism in midfield as De Bruyne, who is set to leave this summer.

Since the start of last season, Wirtz has registered 41 goal contributions in his 57 games.

De Bruyne himself enjoyed a spectacular breakout spell in Bundesliga, firing Wolfsburg to the DFB Pokal and a second-place finish in the Bundesliga, before making the switch to City.

He has since gone on to scored 106 goals and registered 174 assists in 413 appearanced under Guardiola.
