EPL: Why I dropped Cole Palmer, Jackson against Brentford – Maresca

Published on April 06, 2025 at 01:43 PM

Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca, has explained why he decided to leave Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson from his starting XI to face Brentford on Sunday.

Blues' supporters were left stunned after the team sheets were released before the West London Derby.

Palmer and Jackson were left on the bench, as Maresca made changes to the side that beat Tottenham 1-0 on Thursday.

Pedro Neto, Marc Cucurella and Levi Colwill all dropped to the bench, perhaps with Thursday's Conference League quarter-final first leg in Poland against Legia Warszawa in mind.

“It’s the game plan. The ones that are starting I think are going to be the right ones,” Maresca told the BBC.

Chelsea are looking to get back into the top four spots with a win.
