EU offers US zero-for-zero tariff amid Trump’s tariff

Published on April 07, 2025 at 06:14 PM

The European Union has extended a zero-for-zero tariff offer on industrial goods to the United States, signalling its readiness to engage in negotiations with the administration of former President Donald Trump.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, made this known in a widely circulated video released by Libs of TikTok on Monday.

According to her, the EU remains committed to fair trade and is prepared to respond to any punitive tariffs with appropriate countermeasures in defence of its economic interests.

“We stand ready to negotiate with the United States. We have offered zero-for-zero tariffs for industrial goods, as we have successfully done with many other trading partners because Europe is always ready for a good deal.
“So we keep it on the table. We are also prepared to respond through countermeasures and defend our interests,”; she stated.

Her remarks come in the wake of President insisting instead that Europe must pay annual reparations to the United States.

DAILY POST reports that Trump’s tariff announcement of 2 April 2025 triggered global condemnation and several days of severe downturns in international trade markets.
