Europa League: Amorim sends message to Onana after mistake in 2-2 draw with Lyon

Published on April 11, 2025 at 05:43 AM

Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, has told Andre Onana to focus on their next matches, after his errors cost the team in a 2-2 draw with Lyon in the Europa League quarter-final first leg.

Thiago Almada gave the hosts the lead, after his free-kick evaded everyone and crept past Onana.

Leny Yoro headed in the equalizer just before half time, while Joshua Zirkzee appeared to have won it with two minutes.

But Onana spilled a shot into Rayan Cherki's path and he scored a late leveller.

Amorim, speaking after the game, has advised Onana to focus on the Premier League clash against Newcastle on Sunday, which comes ahead of the second leg against Lyon at Old Trafford.

“It's important [for Andre Onana] to focus on the next game in the Premier League, then think about the second leg.

“Against Lyon, when one player makes a mistake, the whole team makes a mistake,” Amorim told TNT Sports
