FANS are all saying the same thing as the news broke that Lionel Messi is set to join Inter Miami.

The shock move could happen after the World Cup, according to reports, leaving PSG scrambling to find a replacement.

It would be a huge coup for Inter Miami, owned by David Beckham, and presents a prospect that has got people thinking.

If the move were to happen it would mean Miami boss Phil Neville would be managing Messi, a combination that has left footie fans beside themselves.

Neville’s management career has yet to really take off and he was often criticised when working as a pundit.

One person on Twitter said: “The thought of Phil Neville giving Lionel Messi tactical guidance is too perfect for words.”

While another added: “The very prospect of Lionel Messi playing under Phil Neville will never not be hilarious.

One tweeter even went as far to say that “it will be a crime against football if Messi is managed by Phil Neville.”

The former Manchester United player took over at Inter Miami in 2021.

It was only his second full-time job in football management after his three year stint as England Woman’s boss.

He also briefly served as Salford City caretaker in 2015.

Messi meanwhile is arguably the greatest and most decorated player of all time and continues to impress at PSG at the age of 35.

Fans could not quite work out how this manager and player dynamic could be on the brink of happening.

One said on Twitter: “Phil Neville managing Lionel Messi, the greatest player of all time, is some mad alternative timeline stuff

While another baffled observer said: “We’re in a world where Lionel Messi could be managed by Phil Neville.”

While another went even further and cast their eyes over many surprisingly developments in football this season.

They wrote: “Imagine being cryogenically frozen in 2013 then waking up 10 years later to Arsenal as Premier League champions, Newcastle in the Champions League and Lionel Messi being managed by Phil Neville.”

Messi’s PSG contract runs out at the end of the season, but there were expectations for the star to make an emotional return to Barcelona.
