Fear as hoodlums attack officers at Gombe Correctional Centre

Published on April 11, 2025 at 11:01 AM

A shooting incident occurred near the Gombe Correctional Centre on the night of Wednesday, after prison guards repelled an attack by hoodlums, leaving one person injured.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the incident in a post on his official X handle on Friday, the attack happened around 11:45 p.m. when a group of suspected criminals attempted to force their way through a barricade manned by the Correctional Arms Squad.

“When the guards stopped them, the suspects refused to comply and instead began throwing stones at the officers,”; Makama stated.

“In response, one of the officers fired, hitting 30-year-old Adamu Ahmed Bello of Jankai Quarters, Gombe, in the shoulder.”;

Bello was immediately rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe for medical treatment, while security operatives were swiftly deployed to the area to restore order.

Police sources confirmed that an investigation is currently underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
