Figo names most successful coach in Real Madrid’s history

Published on April 23, 2025 at 05:58 PM

Former Real Madrid star Luis Figo has named current manager Carlo Ancelotti as the most successful coach in the history of the club.

Figo made this statement while throwing his support behind the Italian following his side's elimination from the UEFA Champions League by Arsenal.

Ancelotti recently faced criticism after Los Blancos were beaten 5-1 on aggregate by the Gunners in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Some questioned his future with Madrid and debated whether he should continue as manager beyond next year.

Ancelotti's contract with Real Madrid will expire in the summer of 2026.

“I know this world has a short memory. It’s hard to see beyond the most recent game,” Figo told Gazzetta about the backlash Ancelotti received.

“In Madrid, it’s even more true. What I find very strange is that everyone would question Ancelotti’s ability, who is also the most successful coach in Real Madrid’s history.

“It seems absurd to me that after the Champions League match against Arsenal, the only question asked on the radio and TV was about his future. In football, you can’t win all the time, and that is also true for Real Madrid,”; he said.
