A major fire disaster was averted on Wednesday at a law chambers in Ilorin, Kwara State capital.

The fire incident occurred at about 09:22 hours at Ghalib Chambers. The law firm is located at a building on Unity Road, Ilorin, which houses about 80 offices.

However, only one office was affected by the fire incident, according to the spokesman of the state fire service, Hassan Adekunle in a statement on Wednesday.

He said, “Upon receiving the distress call, firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene and their swift intervention prevented further destruction.

“They contained the fire to a single office on the second floor of the two-storey building, which houses about 80 offices.”

Hassan disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed that the fire incident was caused by a power surge, which affected an air conditioner and some books.

Director of the state fire service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, sympathized with the law firm and advised the organization to adopt the use of fixed fire installations to enhance fire safety and prevention.
