Five Soldiers injured in IED attack during military operation in Sokoto

Published on April 12, 2025 at 11:08 AM

At least five personnel of the Nigerian Army sustained serious injuries following an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack allegedly planted by Lakurawa bandits in Sokoto State.

Security analyst, Zagazola Makama revealed on his X handle that the incident occurred around 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025, along the Magarya–Ruwa Wuri axis, a volatile stretch known for bandit activity.

According to intelligence sources cited by Makama, the soldiers were conducting a routine clearance operation when the explosive device detonated, severely injuring five troops.

The wounded soldiers were immediately evacuated to a medical facility where they are currently receiving treatment. Their identities have not yet been disclosed, but military sources confirmed that all five remain in stable condition.

Military reinforcements were swiftly deployed to the area following the incident, with aggressive patrols and surveillance continuing to flush out criminal elements and ensure public safety.

The Nigerian Army has yet to issue an official statement on the attack, but security operations remain active across the region as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terror cells and restore peace in Sokoto and its environs.
