Fleeing bandits intensify attacks in Sokoto

Published on March 23, 2025 at 12:58 PM

Residents of Baidi community in Tangaza Local Government Area, Sokoto State, clashed with armed bandits in a fierce battle on Saturday, March 22, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to two others.

Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen attacked the village in broad daylight, with three armed bandits on each of six motorcycles.

The victims were rushed to Tangaza General Hospital, where one later succumbed to his injuries.

Local sources confirmed that this was the third bandit attack in the area within a week.

The attackers are not affiliated with the Lakurawa terrorist group, whose influence in the region has been diminished by security forces.

According to New Telegraph, fleeing bandits have taken advantage of the security vacuum, increasing attacks, kidnappings, and cattle rustling in the communities.

“This is the third attack by bandits since the Lakurawa were forced out of this community,”; a local resident said.

Other villages in Tangaza LGA, including Layinna and Aliya, have also suffered attacks, with bandits killing one person, injuring several others, and restricting access to vital water sources.

Residents have called on security agencies to intervene, urging urgent measures to protect lives and property.

The Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Council, Isah Salihu Kalenjini, has reportedly visited Tangaza General Hospital to assess the condition of the injured victims.
