FRSC blames brake failure for security officers’ accident in Abia

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Abia State Command, Ngozi Ezeoma, has confirmed the death of one security personnel in a single vehicle road traffic collision that occurred on 30th March, 2025, involving a vehicle from the joint task force of Operation Crush, at Isieke along the Umuahia-Bende road.

The Sector Commander, who attributed the collision to reported brake failure, confirmed that eight officers sustained varying degrees of injury in the incident.

In a press release made available to the media, the Sector Commander stated that the fatal collision occurred on Sunday night at Ahiaeke junction along the Umuahia-Bende road, where the vehicle veered off the road and fell into a ditch due to brake failure.

She explained that the injured officers were evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre in Umuahia by the Police before the arrival of the FRSC, while the deceased officer was taken to the mortuary.

Meanwhile, the wreckage of the patrol van from the joint security team has been recovered from the ditch.
