CELEBRITY Big Brother fans slammed ITV for airing a scene where pop star JoJo Siwa discussed her gender identity.
The 21-year-old openly gay singer, made an admission about her gender identity in the diary room as she explained it to.
When asked about her gender identity, she said she might be nonbinary: “It’s something that I’m not ready necessarily to be open about or upfront about but it has to do with gender and how do I feel.”;
Her , former , who was with her in the diary room congratulated her after her admission.
“That was good. Good job,”; he told JoJo.
But fans watching at home slammed the broadcaster for airing the scene, saying she seemed uncomfortable to talk about the topic.
“Get that they had to ask the question, but then they didn’t have to air what JoJo was talking about. Seems a bit cruel, especially when she said she’s not ready,” wrote one viewer on X, formerly Twitter.
Another added: “I know jojo is getting a lot of hate lately but I genuinely feel sorry for her in a way.”
And a third posted: “him making this up because he wanted to protect Jojo from having to say she was talking about potentially being non binary......oh Chris ‘LGBT ally of the year’ Hughes you will ALWAYS be famous.”
The term nonbinary is an adjective for “people who experience their gender identity… as falling outside the binary gender categories of man and woman,” according to LGBTQ+ media advocacy group, GLAAD.
During her conversation with Big Brother, JoJo spoke up on her feelings about her gender identity.
“Let’s put it this way. Oh my God, this is a lot. Essentially, you have female, you have male. I’ve met a lot of females and love them but don’t feel like I’m them. Met a lot of males, love them but definitely not them,” JoJo explained.
“I’ve met a lot of people in my life that are non-binary and these beautiful non-binary people are who I feel the most like. It’s not something that I want to say about myself yet but it’s something that is confusing. So, that’s probably why we were talking about it last night.”;
Big Brother replied: “JoJo, thank you for being so honest and sharing with Big Brother.”;
The star later became emotional as she told the other housemates what she had told Big Brother.
