Gov Alia decries havoc wreaked by protesters in Benue community

Published on April 03, 2025 at 06:21 PM

Benue State governor, Hyacinth Alia, on Thursday, visited Naka, the headquarters of Gwer-West Local Government, to assess the widespread destruction caused by protests that erupted in the area.

DAILY POST recalls that the protest, which took place on 11 March 2025, was in response to the tragic killing of three youths in Tsambe-Mmbesev Ward.

The protesters set fire to and looted the palace of the Ter Tyoshin/Nagi, HRH Daniel Abomtse and the Local Government Secretariat.

The house of Felix Atume, the former Registrar of COREN, was also among the properties looted and destroyed during the protest.

Governor Alia, while en route to Otukpo, visited the local government secretariat, where he observed significant damage to the buildings.

The governor expressed deep concern over the destruction, condemning the actions of the protesters who had resorted to violence in response to the killings.

In his statement, Governor Alia called for peace and urged the people of Gwer-West to remain calm while justice was sought for the loss of lives.

He assured the affected communities that the state government would work towards restoring order and providing support for the reconstruction of the damaged properties.
