Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has charged the 2025 Batch ‘A' Stream 1 corps members deployed to the state to excel in their service year and contribute to the development of their host communities during their service year in the state.
The Governor made the call during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 batch ‘A' Stream 1 corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Umunna, Bende Local Government Area, on April 25, 2025.
Dr Otti who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Nwaobilor Ananaba emphasized the critical role of the NYSC scheme in nation-building and expressed his administration's commitment to strengthening the scheme and enhancing its capacity to meet its mandate.
He further prayed for the success of new NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu.
In her address, the State Coordinator, NYSC Abia, Mrs Gladys Adama said the orientation course was meant to instill discipline and leadership qualities in the corps members, explaining that the corps members will be deployed the 17 Local Government Areas of the state, particularly in rural communities where their services are most needed.
This, she said, will contribute to the State Government's new Abia agenda for strategic development.
She expressed gratitude to the State Governor, Alex Otti, for his support to the scheme, including the ongoing rehabilitation work in the camp, but appealed for the relocation of the NYSC state secretariat to a more conducive office space and the payment of monthly stipends to corps members deployed to the state.
The corps members were sworn-in by Justice Chido Wakama.
