We test three hair oils to add shine to your locks without greasiness – one will immediately make your ends look sleeker

IF you’d told me a few years ago that I’d consider hair oil an essential in my routine, I’d have laughed.

I’ve got fine that gets greasy quickly, so it was a huge no-no.

But a new gen of oils has hit shelves with the ability to add shine without greasiness.

I put three to the test . . .

BUDGET

ARKIVE THE GOOD HABIT HAIR OIL, 50ml, £15, arkiveheadcare.com:This was the first oil that convinced me I could in fact use hair oils, so I’ve got a real soft spot for it.

The serum-like texture makes application virtually fool-proof and means less waste as it doesn’t run off your hands.

I apply two pumps, which is enough to cover my waist-length hair, so it lasts for months.

I find for the most shine, it’s best used on wet hair before heat-styling.

If you have a heat-free hair routine, you might not reap all the benefits but, given the price, it’s still worth trying.

MID-RANGE

The pipette applicator means you can be really precise about how much product you use (minimising waste) which makes it super flexible to use in different circumstances.

On wet hair, I use three-quarters of a pipette but if I want to add some shine and definition to second or third-day hair, a couple of drops will do.

It’s a luxury product in every sense of the word, definitely worth the price tag.
