I’m a hair pro and you’ve been using dry shampoo wrong – here’s a simple trick to keep your locks grease-free for longer

A HAIR expert has revealed the crucial mistake loads of beauty fans make when it comes to apply dry shampoo.

The spray on stuff is perfect for a quick fix when your locks need a little life injected into them, but if you're spraying your just before you head out, you're missing out.

According to Doctor Ree Adel, dry shampoo is actually best used at night – not when you're getting ready in the morning.

She took to to explained, and left fellow hair fans stunned.

“Believe it or not, dry shampoo actually works way better if you use it at night,” she explained.

“Spray it on before bed, you let it marinate while you sleep and because the scalp produces the most oil overnight, this gives the dry shampoo time to actually soak it all up.

“Trust me, you will wake up with fresh, grease-free hair that actually lasts all day.”

The hair whizz went on to share some more dry shampoo tips in the comment section of her viral video.

As well as applying the product at night, she suggested avoiding rubbing it into your roots for a few minutes – just let it sit for a bit.

And of course, don't hold the bottle too close or far away to your head, about 10cm – 15cm should do the trick.

Plenty of hair fans were so amazed by the simple trick, one said: “Genius!”

And someone else chimed in: “I do this all the time, always let it sit!”

Why does hair get greasy?

Does your hair look and feel like an oil slick, even though you only recently washed it?

If you’re washing daily, it might be best to cut down.

Siobhan Haug, co-founder of Haug London Haus and award-winning colour technician, recommends using a gentle, pH-balancing shampoo and cleansing your hair every two to three days.

“Too much shampooing triggers the over production of natural oils and too little will allow it to build up in the hair making it look greasy,”; she adds.

A filled with processed foods, sugars, and unhealthy fats, such as those found in crisps and fried foods, can also lead to increased inflammation in the scalp, triggering the sebaceous glands to produce more oil, resulting in .

“Incorporating foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as oily fish and flaxseeds, along with plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains can help reduce inflammation and regulate oil production,”; says Kieran.

“Hormonal changes during puberty, , or stress can lead to an increase in sebum production, resulting in oilier hair,”; adds Dr Zioga.
