The Benue State All Progressives Congress led by Comrade Austin Agada has condemned the spate of killings and wanton destruction of properties in communities in the state.
The party described the violence as “genocide and an evil agenda to take over Benue lands.”;
This was contained in a statement by the publicity secretary of the party, Daniel Ihomun.
He noted that the security situation in the state has deteriorated and condemned the recent wave of killings and destruction in several parts of the state.
The party called on the state governor, Hyacinth Alia to immediately overhaul the security architecture for failing in the most sacred responsibility of safeguarding lives and property.
They asked the state governor to convoke emergency stakeholders’ security summit, involving Members of the National Assembly, State Assembly, Federal Government appointees, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society groups, and youth organizations to forge a concrete road map to peace.
“The state governor should carry out the Implementation of a comprehensive plan for the return of Internally displaced Persons (IDPs) to their ancestral homes with adequate security guarantees.
“Active and sincere engagement of the Benue State Traditional Council with the aim of devising communal base responses. Our traditional leaders must rise in defence of our heritage and people.
“We condemn the latest wave of insecurity in Tyuluv, Saror, and Mbawar communities in Ukum, Une in Katsina-ala, Gondozua in Logo Local Government Areas, as well as the brutal murder of over 17 individuals in Akpa-Otobi Community, Otukpo Local Government Area,” he said.
