Hotel sunbed wars are not uncommon, but footage shared online shows desperate holidaymakers taking it to a new level.

Guests at a hotel in Playa de las Américas were seen waiting by the pool before the sunbeds had even been laid out.

In a TikTok uploaded by @holidaybestbits in February, a few tan-happy holidaymakers were spotted hanging around the empty pool area early in the morning.

users were shocked to realise they were hovering around just to snatch up a sunbed.

The footage shows at least six people stood up with their beach bags lingering near the pool before the hotel staff give them the go-ahead.

One was seen reading a book and another had even placed three towels on the floor where the sunbeds would be.

The clip was captioned: “It comes to something when you reserve your sunbed spot by standing in the location you want.

“Reserving your sunbeds to a whole new level.”;

As a man in a shirt starts to unload the loungers, another man in a hat and Hawaiian top grabs the other side and places it down where a woman quickly loads it up with a beach bag and towel.

Other lingering tourists stood near the beds as they were laid out, obviously anxious to get hold of the space they wanted.

Previously, would simply pop their towels on their preferred sunbed to “reserve the space”; before heading to the poolside later.

Hanging around before the beds are even available is ramping up the competition.

Those watching the clip on social media were horrified and quickly took to the comments to express their disgust.

One wrote: “This is why I no longer take these type of .”;

Another agreed: “Waste of time and .”;

A third commented: “Never ever have I been on holiday and had to do that.

“May this kind of holiday never finds me.”;

A traveller who seemed to have seen this behaviour before said: “You will always get the ones who panic and it is crazy to see it happening.”;

Another slammed those in the video: “Pathetic really. Grown-ups. Lol.”;

Earlier this year a woman criticised sunlounger-hoggers in after she was unable to nab a sunbed by the pool.

The TikToker who goes by the username @themrsmayofficial was fuming that she was unable to relax on her holiday.

In the end, she decided the only way to get the holiday she wanted was to reserve a lounger too.

She set her alarm to 6.30am to grab a good spot but to her there were already plenty of towels out.

The woman shared her despair online joking: “If you can’t beat them, join them.”;
