Now the air date has been revealed and it will be Monday, April 7.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted the soap's casting list for shows airing between the 7th and 9th and it features Jamie's name.

One wrote on a fan forum: “WARREN FOX IS BACK IN THE HOUSE!!!!!! SOOOO EXCITED FOR THE FLASH BACK EPISODE.”

Jamie, 49, spent nearly two decades on the soap before leaving last year.

Viewers watched his criminal character flee abroad leaving lover Mercedes McQueen behind with her children.

Since his exit, Hollyoaks has flashed forward a year to help with a major cast shake-up.

Last year the soap was cut from five episodes a week to just three and some 135 jobs were lost.

In that time, things have changed beyond all recognition for Warren’s loved ones.

Mercedes has been battling bowel cancer, and his son Joel has suffered a relapse and fought against his evil brother Abe.

A source said: “Hollyoaks bosses promised to revisit the missing year and what better way than to welcome back Warren for it.

“It was too good an opportunity to miss and Jamie jumped at the chance.

“He loved his time on the show and he was more than happy to return for an appearance.”;

The flashbacks will feature Mercedes' diagnosis and the early days of her cancer battle, as well as Joel succumbing to his heroin addiction.

Warren's storyline is under wraps but viewers are keen to learn what happened to him after his exit.

Away from the soap, Jamie has been cast in British comedyflick Jackie The Stripper, which also features Katie Price.

He plays the notorious serial killer Jack the Ripper in the dark caper which is set in Whitechapel in 1888 as well as the present day.
