TEMPLEGATE tackles day one of Newbury’s blockbuster Gold Cup meeting confident of going through the card.

PROSCHEMA (3.05 Newbury, nap)

He had 10 lengths in hand when scoring at Wetherby and can follow up on ground that should suit him.

RUSSIAN RULER (1.20 Newbury, nb)

He showed lots of promise last season and was pitched into the Grade 2 Dovecote at Kempton when last seen in February. That was a bit hot but Nicky Henderson thinks a lot of him and this longer trip and lower grade are ideal.

SHEARER (3.40 Newbury, treble)

He was still tanking along before being hampered and unseating in a hot handicap at Cheltenham. This trip and track suit so he can make amends.
