Huge chocolate brand recalls two items from UK supermarkets over ‘risk of small stones’ in bars

A HUGE chocolate brand has recalled two items from UK supermarkets over a “risk of small stones” in its bars.

Tony's Chocolonely issued a warning to its customers today, telling them not to eat the Dark Almond Sea Salt and Everything Bar.

The iconic chocolate company, which became popular for its delicious and purpose-driven confectionery, issued the recall after identifying two affected batches.

Although the risk of small stones being present in the product is small, the brand wanted to “ensure the safety and satisfaction” of its customers.

The products affected are the the Dark Almond Sea Salt 180g and Everything Bar 180g with specific lot codes: 162633, 162614, 163061, 4331, 4332, 4333.

With the Dark Almond Sea Salt, bars with the best before dates 28 February 2026 and 2 April, 2026 should be avoided.

And with the Everything Bar, customers should immediately return their chocolate and request a refund if it the best before dates are between the 26 and 28 November of this year.

Tony's fans will be reassured to know that the recall only affects these products and all other chocolate remains safe to consume.

Tony's Chocolonely said it is working in partnership with retailers and food authorities who are in the process of removing impacted products from sale and distribution.

In a statement, the company said: “We are extremely sorry to have to issue this recall, and for the inconvenience that this will cause people who purchased these products.

“Whilst the probability of a product being affected is low, we always put the safety and satisfaction of our consumers first and that is why we have made the decision to recall these products.

“We apologise to consumers and our partners for the impact this will have.”

Customers who have purchased one of the affected bars should return it to their nearest shop for a full refund.

Tony's Chocolonely came about after Dutch journalist Teun (Tony) van de Keuken started investigating the use of slavery in the cocoa industry for the consumer watchdog show Keuringsdienst van Waarde.

During his research, he discovered that the majority of chocolate on supermarket shelves was made from cocoa harvested by slaves.

And he then decided to take action and create his own line of Fairtrade chocolate.

The very first Tony’s Chocolonely bars hit shelves in 2005, and in 2006 the company registered with the Chamber of Commerce.

While the bars have increased in popularity since then, their mission has remained the same – “we want to eradicate slavery from the global chocolate industry”, they write on their website.
