Five ways to save money at Poundland
A HUGE discount chain has halved the price of its Cadbury Heroes to just a couple of pounds, making it the cheapest on the market right now.
Poundland has slashed the price of its popular chocolate to just £2, down from £4.
Poundland has slashed the price of its Cadbury Heroes
The price of the 290g assortment of chocolates and toffees undercuts the retailer's competitors.
For example, Waitrose is charging £4 for the box still.
Meanwhile, Tesco has priced the treat at £4.50 for non-Clubcard members and £3.50 for those who have one, and Sainsbury's is charging a whopping £5 for the 290g box.
Supermarkets regularly slash the price of boxes of chocolates like Heroes, so it's a good idea to shop around before buying them for a special occasion.
You can use a comparison tool like trolley.co.uk to see which shop is offering the item cheapest right now.
It is important to remember to always shop around when buying something like this as you might find a cheaper alternative.
Websites like Trolley and Price Spy let you compare thousands of products across different retailers to find the best price.
Price Spy even lets you see how much an item has cost over time, so you can see if the current price is a good deal.
A quick scan on the Google Shopping/Product tab will also bring up how much retailers are selling a certain item for too.
How to save at Poundland using its app
The Poundland Perks app launched in mid-October with exclusive savings on everyday products ranging from groceries and toiletries to cleaning supplies to seasonal homeware.
Perks Pricing deals are savings that are ready to be redeemed in-store, simply by scanning a barcode in the app.
When you’ve found your discounts and are ready to shop, add your items to your in-app basket and head to a Poundland store.
At the checkout, you'll scan the QR code from the app to redeem your savings – it's really that simple.
Through a range of discounts, rewards and limited promotions, the app lets its users access exclusive deals that are only available to members.
But the good news doesn't stop there, because the loyalty app goes beyond saving on in-store purchases.
When you buy certain products, you’ll earn Powered Up Points which can be collected and redeemed for even more rewards.
For every £1 spent in-store, Poundland Perks members scoop up 100 points in the app and every 5.000 points earns them a £1 voucher.
How to save money on chocolate
We all love a bit of chocolate from now and then, but you don't have to break the bank buying your favourite bar.
Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how to cut costs…
Go own brand – if you're not too fussed about flavour and just want to supplant your chocolate cravings, you'll save by going for the supermarket's own brand bars.
Shop around – if you've spotted your favourite variety at the supermarket, make sure you check if it's cheaper elsewhere.
Websites like Trolley.co.uk let you compare prices on products across all the major chains to see if you're getting the best deal.
Look out for yellow stickers – supermarket staff put yellow, and sometimes orange and red, stickers on to products to show they've been reduced.
They usually do this if the product is coming to the end of its best-before date or the packaging is slightly damaged.
Buy bigger bars – most of the time, but not always, chocolate is cheaper per 100g the larger the bar.
So if you've got the appetite, and you were going to buy a hefty amount of chocolate anyway, you might as well go bigger.
