A TRAGIC husband sacrificed himself to “save the woman he loved” in a horror six-car smash with a lorry.

David Lalgee selflessly turned his car into the path of the lorry to take the impact of the crash – ensuring wife Jo could escape with her life.

His family have now paid tribute

The 64-year-old suffered serious injuries in the horror on the M60 near and tragically passed away in hospital shortly after.

His family have paid tribute to the “devoted father and proud grandfather” and said “no words can truly capture the man David was”.

They said: “He adored his family, and the way he loved his wife was something truly special filling their home with warmth, kindness, and steadfast devotion. His absence leaves a void that words cannot express.

“In his final moments, David did what he had always done – he put others before himself. With incredible bravery, he protected his wife, Jo, placing himself between her and the oncoming lorry that had crossed the central reservation.

“He took the full impact, sacrificing his life to save the woman he loved.”

The horror unfolded on March 20 when a lorry crossed the central reservation and go into the embankment before hitting six vehicles.

David was one of the cars involved in the collision with wife Jo a passenger.

His family described him as a “pillar of love and support to so many” through his work as a pastor in .

They said he “lived to serve others, always offering kindness, wisdom, and unwavering faith”.

The loved ones added: “His selflessness and compassion touched so many lives, and while our time with him was far too short, we will forever cherish the moments and memories he gave us.”

Emergency crews confirmed five people were treated at the scene for their injuries with two taken to hospital.

Greater Police said previously no arrests had been made.
