A HORROR crash has seen two men rushed to hospital as cops cordon off a major A-road.

Police have shut down Hyde Road, in Gorton, , after a smash involving two cars unfolded at around 4.15am.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) confirmed two men were taken to hospital.

Hyde Road has been closed in both directions between Parkdale Avenue and Chapman Street.

Sections of Hengist Street and Wellington Street are also blocked off, according to the Inrix traffic monitoring service.

A GMFRS spokesperson said: “Just before 4am this morning (Tuesday, April 22), three fire engines from Gorton and Philips Park fire station were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving two cars on Hyde Road, Manchester. Crews arrived quickly at the scene.

“Firefighters used spreading equipment, lighting and salvage sheets to get two men safely out of the vehicles, who were treated by colleagues from North West Ambulance Service at the scene and then taken to hospital. Firefighters were in attendance for around 50 minutes.”

An update from Inrix said: “A57 Hyde Road in both directions closed, heavy traffic due to accident between Parkdale Avenue and Chapman Street.
