I started my music career in church choir – Ruger

Published on March 31, 2025 at 11:15 AM

Afrobeats singer Ruger has revealed that his musical career started in the church choir.

He disclosed this in a recent episode of the Apple Music programme Africa Now.

According to Ruger, his background in the church choir sharpened his vocals.

The Bounce hitmaker explained that he doesn’t even flaunt his vocal ability in his songs, stressing that those who have experienced him perform live have had the opportunity to enjoy his vocals.

He said, “Only people who have experienced me perform live have had the opportunity to enjoy my vocals. Even in my music, I don’t necessarily show it off.

“My favourite time being Ruger is when I'm performing on stage because I get to do whatever I like with my songs. I started from the choir. I know how to sing, especially when it is a song that resonates deeply with me.”;
