And things are going so well for Jan, that she's already lined up at least one potential suitor, who might make a future husband.

Speaking on Best Magazine's Sunday Suddenly Single podcast, Jan, who appeared on the 2006 series of , says she might take the advice of late fifth husband, Patrick Hunt, and head down the aisle for a sixth time.

Responding to whether she'd get wed again, Jan says: “Never say never. My son’s late father said, ‘Why not make it a baker’s half-dozen!'”

But she won't settle for anyone, adding: “I don’t want somebody who hasn’t looked after themselves, because I have. To me, that’s a lack of discipline.”

Before going on to give further details about the first of two chaps she currently running the rule over.

She adds: “It’s going extremely well. At my age I’m not going to get a million likes, but I have been on a date!

“They send you info with the person’s background, and if you like what you see, you get a phone call. We chatted for an hour-and-a-half, then an hour the next night, and the next! So we met.

“At first I wasn’t sure... but he was such an engaging conversationalist. He had me laughing and that’s very important.”

And Janet, who says she “doesn't have an addictive personality” but is “an idiot when it comes to men”, is even eyeing a backup plan, despite initially being reluctant to follow the agency's advice of dating more than one person at a time.

She says: “I said, ‘I can’t see two at once!' But they said, ‘Keep your options open!'

“I’ve never played the field. I’ve been serially monogamous. But it’s not exclusive.”

Jan's first marriage was to BBC sound engineer John Staple in 1961. That lasted seven months and she then moved in with poet Owen Leeming, who despite never marrying, still took his surname.

In 1972 she married estate agent Jeremy Gilchrist, before Jan wed BBC radio announcer Patrick Lunt, the father of her son Jonathan, in 1981.

After that she married Red Arrows pilot Eric Steenson, before headmaster Chris Russell became husband number five.
