The player in question, named Brett, managed to get every single answer right on .

In terms of format, contestants must answer questions relating to little-known facts until they reach the final puzzle, .

The players were whittled down round by round until only one remained to face the one percent question.

When the final question arrived, although he could have walked away with £10,000, he chose to take a risk and play for the ultimate jackpot.

If he answered correctly, he would win a whopping £96,000 and join the prestigious 1% Club.

The host asked him to fill in the gaps of several sentences using the same four-letter word so that they made sense.

When it was time to answer, Brett looked completely stunned by the question's difficulty.

He sighed through the 30 second time limit he was given as he visibly struggled to think of an answer.

“I didn't know it. I put last. I just couldn't see it,” he explained to the actor and comedian.

Unfortunately, his answer was incorrect; Lee was looking for the word “only”.

So the correct sentences read: “Only I am certain that he read the man's notes. I am certain that only he had read the man's notes. I am certain that he had read the man's only notes.”

Many gasps and sounds of shock echoed through the audience as the realisation of the loss sunk in.

Lee consoled the contestant, saying: “Brett, unlucky. That was a big gamble.

“You did brilliant to get this far and you have of course got your £1,000. SO congratulations.

“Unfortunately you didn't make it into the 1% Club, but you can walk away knowing that you did better than the rest of the people in this room tonight, so well done you!”
