Seven people have allegedly been killed by suspected members of the Boko Haram insurgents in the course of attacks on communities in Hong, Adamawa State.
The Banga and Larh communities of Hong are the scenes of the latest attacks, according to residents who have reported that the insurgents poured into the communities on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, and left a trail of death and destruction.
Initial accounts from residents put the total number of the dead at six, including a vigilante killed by a detonated bomb in Banga.
The attack in Banga was said to have claimed three other lives in all: two men directly shot dead by the insurgents and a woman who fell and died as she made to run away.
Two deaths were recorded in nearby Larh, bringing the accounted number of the dead8n the two communities to six but an authoritative source said as this report was being concluded that the dead were indeed seven.
Among assets that were destroyed was a police van from Garaha which was stationed in Banga but destroyed by another Boko Haram bomb, although all the occupants were spared as they had evacuated the vehicle before the bomb explosion.
The attack also left a young boy unaccounted for, with a witness revealing, “His phone is ringing, but there’s no response.”;
The Chairman of Hong Local Government Area, Usman Wa'aganda confirmed the attacks in a telephone interview Wednesday afternoon, affirming that seven people lost their lives.
The attacks on Banga and Larh came barely a week after the paramount king of the Hong people vowed that Boko Haram insurgents would no longer have it easy anywhere around his domain.
