Accept EU tariffs deal – Two Republican senators advise Trump

Published on April 07, 2025 at 06:33 PM

Republican Senators Ron Johnson and Mike Lee have expressed support for US President Donald Trump accepting the European Union's offer of zero-for-zero tariffs.

The EU had proposed a zero-for-zero tariff deal to the United States, noting that it is ready to enter negotiations with the Trump administration.

Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the EU, made this announcement in a viral video released by Libs of TikTok on Monday.

In response, Lee of Utah posted on X, “Let’s take that deal!” while sharing a video of von der Leyen discussing the proposal. “Much to gain,” he added.

For his part, Johnson shared Lee’s comments, expressing his agreement.

“Totally agree with @BasedMikeLee,” the Wisconsin Republican wrote.

“At some point, you have to take YES for an answer.”

This comes after Trump recently ruled out negotiations with the EU, insisting that it must pay the US yearly reparations.
