The sole aspirant, Jude Ezenwafor, has secured the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ticket for the Anambra governorship election.

DAILY POST reports that the PDP governorship primary was held on Tuesday at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Awka, the state capital.

Chairman of the state governorship election congress committee, Chijioke Onwubuya announced Ezenwafor as the party’s flagbearer at the end of the exercise.

Onwubuya said Ezenwafor secured 798 ‘yes’ votes, with 26 invalid votes, noting that 853 delegates were accredited out of the 999 on the list for the congress.

“By the power vested in me and in line with PDP rules, I hereby declare Jude Ezenwafor our candidate,”; he said.

According to him, the process followed the PDP constitution and electoral guidelines.

Speaking after his victory, Ezenwafor said the PDP was on a rescue mission in Anambra, urging voters to support the party’s bid to reclaim leadership in the state.

He said he joined the race to return the PDP to the Anambra government house.

“If you support me, the dream will come true. They say PDP is dead, but I will prove them wrong. All LGA and ward chairmen are now automatic coordinators in their areas. Our journey to Government House has begun,” he said.

The State Chairman of the PDP, Chidi Chidebe, said the party was heading into the election rejuvenated, united, and strong, as Anambra now regrets rejecting the PDP”;.

He noted that many who left the party have returned after disappointing experiences elsewhere, adding that PDP remains Nigeria’s most liberal platform that built “today’s core governance structures”;.

DAILY POST reports that the Anambra governorship election will be held on November 8.
