The Taraba State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has raised an alarm over alleged plots by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to rig the local government councils election scheduled for today, Saturday.

The state chairman of APC, Barrister Ibrahim Tuktur El-Sudi alleged that the PDP had perfected plans to compromise the elections.

He claimed that the ruling party had perfected plans to use the State Independent Electoral Commission and security operatives to rig the exercise in its favour.

According to him, ”; the PDP is desperate to win the elections at all cost through vote-buying, intimidation, using the officials of the Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission (TSIEC) and security agencies.”;

He called on APC supporters spread across the state to remain calm and come out to vote massively for the party’s candidates at all levels.

When reached for a reaction, the TSIEC chairman, Dr. Philip Duwe reiterated the Commission’s plans to create a level playground for all the candidates, irrespective of the political party.

Also on its part, the state police command, through its spokesperson, Abdullahi Usman, said the Commissioner had warned the police to desist from acts capable of disrupting the success of the election.

As of the time of filing this report, voting materials are yet to be lifted to polling units spread across Jalingo, the state capital and its environs.
