Troops of the Joint Task Force, Tudun Wada, of the Nigerian Army, have arrested a 55-year-old suspected kidnapper, during a security operation in Sumana village, Tudun Wada Local Government Area of Kano State.

This was contained in a statement issued to newsmen by Capt. Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 3 Brigade, of Kano on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the suspect was apprehended on April 20.

The statement noted that the suspect was paraded before the Brigade Commander, Brig.-Gen. Ahmed Tukur, who celebrated the Easter festivals with troops of Forward Operating Base, FOB, Falgore, in Doguwa LGA, Kano.

The statement noted that the commander lauded the troops for their bravery and professionalism, adding that a cache of arms, ammunition and other critical items were recovered during the operation.

It noted that items recovered included one fabricated AK-47 rifle, one Dane gun, nine rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition, and one woodland camouflage uniform.

Also recovered are one desert camouflage, one woodland camouflage vest and a Bajaj motorcycle seat, suspected to be used for concealing weapons.

The statement said Tukur lauded the efforts of the troops, while reaffirming the commitment of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies, to collaborate with local authorities in restoring peace and security across communities.

It quoted the commander as saying that the operation marked another significant milestone in the ongoing fight against criminal elements threatening peace in the region.

“The army remains dedicated to its mandate of safeguarding lives and properties. We will not relent in our efforts to bring perpetrators of criminal acts to justice,”; it said.

The statement noted that the suspect was currently in custody and undergoing preliminary investigation.
