POLICE are finally hoping to solve the chilling murder of a newborn baby found wrapped in a Kleenex toilet roll bag 30 years ago.

Baby April was discovered at a beauty spot in Ashford, , on April 3, 1995.

She had been strangled with a pair of tights then wrapped up in the toilet roll bag before being placed inside a Motaworld bag.

The tot was then thrown into the water in Singleton Lake where she was discovered by a teen couple on a walk.

estimated Baby April was born between March 25 and April 3, 1995 – the week before she was found dead.

They said the 7lb baby was not born with medical intervention as the umbilical cord was roughly severed.

Officers launched a murder investigation following the tragic discovery but were unable to trace her parents or family.

In May 2011, police exhumed Baby April's remains at Bybrook Cemetery in order to get a full DNA profile.

She was then laid to rest again at the cemetery.

Sadly, the newer DNA sample did not lead to any major breakthrough and the tragedy remains unsolved.

But 30 years on from the horror, police are hoping to finally crack the case thanks to developments in DNA profiling and forensic .

DI Lee Neiles, of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, is leading the cold case team and believes scientific advancements could lead to a major breakthrough.

“This is a horrific case of a newborn baby girl being killed and discarded in a lake,”; the 45-year-old said.

“April would be 30 years old now and who knows what she would be contributing to society, but someone ended her life in the most unimaginable way and prevented that young baby growing up to be a girl and a woman.

“I have no doubt someone out there has information in relation to this case, and now that three decades have passed, it has to be the time to do the right thing and come forward so that we can get justice for April.

“Advances in forensic science, particularly familial DNA, now give us an even better chance of establishing who her parents are.

“We urge the mother of April to come forward now, rather than we come to you.”

Anyone with information can call Kent Police on 01622 652006 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
