The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed a violent attack on Takkau Village in Gongono District of Tangaza Local Government Area by suspected members of the Lakurawa bandit group.

According to intelligence sources, the incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on April 7, 2025, when about thirty armed bandits riding on motorcycles stormed the community. The attackers fired shots into the air, causing widespread panic and forcing residents to flee to safety.

In the chaos, the assailants rustled an unspecified number of livestock left behind by the fleeing villagers.

A joint security task force responded promptly to a distress call and launched a search-and-rescue operation. Some of the stolen animals were successfully recovered, and efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Authorities have assured the community of heightened surveillance and continued pursuit of the bandits to restore peace in the region.
