A tragic incident unfolded in the Fadikpe area of Chanchaga Local Government Area, Niger State, as Mohammed Abolore, a commercial bank driver in Minna, was fatally stabbed by suspected miscreants on Sunday night.
According to a statement from the Niger State Police Command, the incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. after local vigilante members received reports of thugs allegedly smoking cannabis in the Rafi axis of the community. While awaiting police support, the vigilantes mobilized to the area to apprehend the suspects.
Mohammed Abolore, a resident of Fadikpe, reportedly volunteered to assist the vigilante team. During the operation, he was attacked and stabbed with a pair of scissors by one of the suspects, identified as Nura Buhari, who immediately fled the scene.
Abolore was rushed to the General Hospital in Minna, where he was later confirmed dead.
Police investigations led to the arrest of another suspect, Abdullahi Rabiu, who is now assisting in efforts to track down other accomplices involved in the attack.
The community head of Fadikpe, Danladi Jibrin, condemned the incident and affirmed that the community is working closely with security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
Niger State Commissioner of Police, Shawulu Danmamman, extended condolences to the family of the deceased and pledged a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.
