Bauchi Polytechnic installs CCTV to check exam malpractice

Published on April 06, 2025 at 12:08 PM

As part of efforts to combat examination malpractice within the institution, the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, has installed Closed-Circuit Television, CCTV, cameras in strategic examination halls.

The Rector, Alhaji Sani Usman, disclosed this on Sunday during an interview with journalists on the sidelines of the 2025 resource inspection and accreditation exercise conducted by the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE.

“We’ve deployed CCTV cameras in key classrooms, particularly those powered by solar inverters. This is part of a broader strategy to enhance exam integrity,”; he said.

He added that the institution was also finalizing a research project funded by TETFund over the last two years, aimed at extending CCTV coverage beyond the classrooms to address both insecurity and exam-related misconduct outside the exam venues.

Speaking on the ongoing accreditation, the Rector explained that the NBTE visit was essential in assessing the institution’s progress over the past five years and ensuring that its equipment, personnel, and academic resources meet current standards.

“The board is here to accredit 78 programmes. The exercise has been completed, and we now await their findings,”; he stated.

In her remarks, Director of Polytechnic Programmes and Team Lead of the NBTE delegation, Dr. Fatima Umar, reiterated the need for the institution to address existing infrastructure and manpower gaps.

Represented by Mr Adesina Oluade, a staff member of the board, Umar noted challenges such as the absence of student handbooks, academic journals, and irregular power supply across some departments.

She assured the institution of a fair and transparent assessment process, adding that the goal of the exercise was to strengthen the quality assurance framework in the Polytechnics.
