A WOMAN who became a meme after a photo of her being “bored” in a nightclub went viral has revealed what made her pull her famous face.

Now 24-year-old Lucia Gorman says the meme was snapped in 2018 at the Milk Club on a night out in Edinburgh.

The iconic image shows Lucia looking unamused as man is speaking into her ear while at the nightclub.

It has been shared millions of times, to be one of the ‘most relatable nightclub photo in history' and among the internet's most famous memes.

It turns out the man was one of her mates, Patrick, from school who approached and tried to talk to her as loud music was playing.

While she does not remember the specific conversation, Lucia recalled to JOE that she had probably had enough of getting her “ear chewed off” and was wanting to go home.

She described the picture as the ultimate mansplaining meme, and said: “I feel like a lot of women in the world probably really understand, and whilst he wasn’t being horrible, I think girls in clubs get the brunt of men just explaining things that you don’t need to hear”.

It is a face Lucia has had trouble recreating naturally for people, highlighting how it was not staged as some may think.

She told JOE: “I find it quite hard to do the like moody, grumpy, uninterested expressions, but maybe I should just get Patrick back in my ear again and we can try to recreate it”.

The former business student revealed being stared at in lectures with some people taking photos of her, according to the Daily Mail.

At one point, Lucia even tried to gain control of how the photo was used, but it had been sold to Vice by the photographer who owned the rights to it.

Instead she had to find comfort in the way the ‘internet moves on',

Seven years later, the now Assistant Brand Manager at Premier Foods has partnered with Samsung to bring more famous facial expressions from memes to life.

Among those include the Harry Maguire ‘Put the Bins Out' meme, highly-relatable ‘Confused Math Lady', and tribute the original image that made Lucia viral.

The recreation of these famous faces have been done to highlight the new Samsung Galaxy A56 5G Best Face technology, which prevents group photo mishaps from happening through AI.

It is designed to eliminate awkward faces, people standing in front of each other and blinking eyes that occur in photographs.

Research commissioned by the smartphone maker revealed these as the most common types of fails in group photos.

The study of 2,000 smartphone users also revealed that around 468 minutes per year is spent editing, filtering and retouching images to their desired perfection.

Around 38 per cent of respondents agreed they found it annoying when everyone but them looks nice in a photo.

Samsung's Annika Bizon said: “We’re empowering users to get their best shot effortlessly, so they can spend less time editing and more time enjoying those special moments”.
