Published on April 09, 2025 at 05:57 AM

Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti, has admitted that Declan Rice's free-kick was the turning point of their Champions League quarter-final first leg tie on Tuesday.

Rice fired in two free-kicks within 13 second-half minutes to send the Gunners on their way to a big win at the Emirates.

The hosts added a third through Mikel Merino's sweeping finish with 14 minutes left.

Ancelotti has now applauded Arsenal's performance and concede they were the better team on the night.

“The result means that Arsenal were much better than us,” Ancelotti told Amazon Prime.

“The game was a bit different.

“For 60 minutes the game was level, and then they shoot two fantastic free-kicks. The game it changes.

“Now it will be very difficult in the second leg. But we have to try.

“The reaction, mentally we went down. We had a problem in the final 30 minutes of the game.”
