Samuel and his pal were shocked after seeing they had been accidentally overcharged for a standard 1 litre bottle of Evian.

The pair had paid up and were about to leave the shop when his friend noticed a bank notification pop up on his phone.

The alert showed a whopping payment of £801.70 had been taken from his bank.

It prompted the two friends to immediately turn back and question the cashier.

But Samuel and his pal said the accidental charge was not “malicious” and the situation was very quickly resolved.

The video quickly went viral and racked up thousands of views online.

Samuel, a content creator and coach based in Kennington, said: “It was a bit crazy when we first noticed.

“We realised what had happened pretty quickly and knew it was just an accident.

“So, to be fair, it was pretty funny.”

He added: “Obviously, it wasn't so funny that the actually got taken.

“But we knew it wasn't malicious and that they'd be OK to give it back.”

Thankfully the corner shop cashier quickly accepted and rectified the mistake but other people have not been so lucky.

He then faced a nightmare process lasting weeks to get his cash back.

Toby Wilson unknowingly spent the whopping sum on the veggie burger and chips meal on his way home from a night out.

The burger should have cost just £6.50 at food truck Efe's Kebab Kitchen.

But Toby only clocked the huge miscalculation of more than £600 when he checked his account balance days later to find it had dropped “significantly”.

Despite the business owner agreeing to repay the cash, Toby was left fuming over the month-long nightmare process to get his money back.

What are my refund rights?

If you want to return a product, there are laws that can you.

You should start by contacting the place where you bought it from or the manufacturer.

They may offer to refund you, fix a broken item, or replace it without dispute – it's important to be clear on what you want them to do.

If this doesn't work, contact your credit or debit card issuer.

Restaurant overcharges are quite common, so card issuers are often willing to help you deal with the problem.

Explain the situation and make sure to mention the efforts you made to resolve the issue with the restaurant yourself.

If all else fails and you refuse a refund you think you are owed, file a police report.
