Congressman calls for insider trading investigation over Trump’s “on-again, off-again tariffs”

Published on April 10, 2025 at 08:05 AM

Senator Adam Schiff of the Democratic Party has called on Congress to quickly investigate whether President Donald Trump is engaging in any insider trading or market manipulation.

The Senator was reacting to President Trump's abrupt pause on a sweeping set of tariffs that already sent stock prices skyrocketing.

Senator Schiff told the Time newspaper on Wednesday that he is “going to do my best to find out” about what transpired in the White House that triggered Trump's latest decision.

Schiff, a California Democrat, said “Family meme coins and all the rest of it are not beyond insider trading or enriching themselves. I hope to find out soon.”;

Similarly, in a spot on his official X microblogging platform, the Congressman accused Trump of “creating giant market fluctuations with his on-again, off-again tariffs”.

According to him, the “constant gyrations in policy provide dangerous opportunities for insider trading”.

“Who in the administration knew about Trump's latest tariff flip flop ahead of time? Did anyone buy or sell stocks, and profit at the public’s expense?” He asked.
