Copa del Rey: Real Madrid may boycott final against Barcelona

Published on April 25, 2025 at 07:46 PM

Real Madrid might boycott Saturday's Copa del Rey final against Barcelona, according to Marca.

Los Blancos, on Friday, condemned as “unacceptable” comments made by officials following a tearful interview given by Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea, the referee appointed for the clash.

Burgos Bengoetxea broke down in tears during a press conference after being questioned about Real Madrid TV videos criticising referees.

Real Madrid TV had suggested that Barcelona win more matches than Real Madrid when Burgos Bengoetxea officiates.

The La Liga champions are now considering boycotting the fixture.

This marks the latest development in an ongoing feud between Spanish football officials and Real Madrid, who cancelled their pre-final media engagements on Friday in response to Bengoetxea's interview.

Earlier this season, Real lodged a formal complaint against referees in the Spanish league, prompting La Liga president Javier Tebas to accuse the club of “losing their minds.”
